LEFTIES: Port Angeles drops shot at series sweep

PORT ANGELES — Two big innings in a 17-6 loss did in Port Angeles’ chances at a series sweep of the Nanaimo NightOwls.

The Lefties held a 3-0 lead in Wednesday’s series finale at Civic Field before Port Angeles got into trouble.

Riley Parker opened the scoring for Port Angeles with a two-run single to score leadoff hitter Derek Bogh, who reached on a double, and Kemet Brown, who singled and stole second base.

Bogh scored again in the third, leading off the inning by reaching on an error and coming home to score on Brown’s RBI double.

But then the wheels fell off for the Lefties’ bullpen.

Owen Dueck came on in the top of the fourth for Port Angeles and allowed a solo home run to leadoff hitter Connor Caskenette before recording an out. But Dueck followed up by yielding four straight singles and committing an error to allow another run to score before being pulled.

When the dust settled, Nanaimo had a 7-3 lead.

Brown added an RBI single in the home half of the inning, but the NightOwls answered with a six-run fifth to take firm control.

Port Angeles added runs in the bottom of the sixth when Brown drew a walk that scored Isaiah Munoz and Adam Paganelli followed with an RBI single to bring home Parker.

The Lefties (11-15) begin a three-game set at Corvallis tonight.
