LEFTIES: Port Angeles drops rubber match despite two home runs from Nick Oakley

PORT ANGELES — Despite a monster game from Nick Oakley, the Lefties lost the rubber match Sunday against Cowlitz, falling 9-4 to the Black Bears.

Oakley hit two home runs on the day and went 3-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored, a stolen base, a hit-by-pitch and two RBIs. Unfortunately, the Lefties only got four other hits from the rest of the team and couldn’t take advantage of Oakley’s big day.

Oakley has hit three home runs in three days and now is tied for the team lead in home runs with five and RBIs with 16. He also raised his season batting average to .315.

The Lefties beat Cowlitz 4-2 on Saturday night.

Cowlitz had runners on base all day Sunday behind 11 hits, eight walks and two hit batsmen surrendered by Lefties pitchers. Starter Steven Brooks took the loss, though he only gave up one earned run in three innings. He was hurt by four unearned runs.

In addition to Oakley’s nice game, Trevor Tishenkel went 2-for-4 and just missed a home run with a deep drive to the wall that was caught for an out. Jack Holman had a double and a run scored, while Javy Espinoza had a single.

Justin Sinclair pitched four innings in relief, giving up four hits and one run while walking three and striking out two.
