LEFTIES: Port Angeles can’t take bite out of Pickles’ playoff hopes

PORT ANGELES — Playing out the string against a pack of Pickles, Port Angeles couldn’t play playoff spoiler in a 7-0 West Coast League loss to Portland on Tuesday night at Civic Field.

With the Pickles in the South Division playoff chase and the Lefties playing out the string, Port Angeles has a chance to influence the direction of the postseason.

But they’ll have to do more offensively than the meager three-hit, six-walk performance offered in the series opener.

The Lefties squandered a solid performance from starter Evan Canfield in Tuesday’s defeat. Canfield settled down after allowing two first-inning runs, scattering six hits and four walks across 5 2/3 innings pitched with four strikeouts.

Port Angeles batters walked five times against Pickles hurler Ian Lawson out of Oregon State but couldn’t touch the ball with a bat through the first six innings.

Lawson recorded eight strikeouts in six no-hit innings to earn the win.

Port Angeles native Ethan Flodstrom led the Lefties at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double.

The Lefties (12-34) will wrap the 2021 summer slate with a Military Appreciation Day contest against the Pickles (25-21) tonight at 6:35 p.m.
