LEFTIES: Port Angeles bounced by Bellingham 9-2

BELLINGHAM — The West Coast League-ERA leading Bellingham Bells don’t allow opponents much room for error(s). Port Angeles committed two costly mistakes, one in the second inning and another in the eighth that lead to four unearned runs as Port Angeles stumbled in a 9-2 defeat Wednesday at Joe Martin Field.

The Lefties’ one-two hitters Justin Vandebrake and Trevor Rosenberg opened the contest with back-to-back singles putting runners on the corners with no outs.

Back-to-back strikeouts followed, before Jason Dicochea came through with a two-out two strike RBI single for a 1-0 Port Angeles lead.

An error by Lefties’ starting pitcher Niall Silberman in the bottom of the second allowed two unearned Bellingham runs to score and gave the Bells a 2-1 lead.

The Bellingham lead grew to 4-1 in the fourth when Dusty Stroup’s two-out double drove in two runs.

Silberman was able to finish out the inning but his night also was over after allowing four runs (two earned), on four hits and four walks along with four strikeouts in four innings of work.

Port Angeles’ other run came in the seventh when Cameron Allie led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on Vandebrake’s third hit of the game and scored on a Rosenberg sacrifice fly.

Allie, who will be a freshman at Santa Clara this fall, upped his average to .300 on the summer with two hits in the game.

Port Angeles (6-11, 18-26) wrapped its three-game series against Bellingham late Thursday.

The Lefties open a three-game homestand tonight at 6:35 p.m. against the Walla Walla Sweets at Civic Field.
