PORT ANGELES — Nanaimo limited the Port Angeles offense in the late innings to snap the Lefties’ four-game winning streak in an 8-2 loss Wednesday at Civic Field.
Port Angeles struck first with runs in the first and fourth innings off Nanaimo starting pitcher Payton Robertson.
Trent Jackson started the game with a single and scored all the way from first base on a B.Y. Choi base hit when Choi was caught in a run-down between first and second.
Back-to-back singles by Sam Adams, who celebrated his 22nd birthday, as well as fellow catcher-turned-designated hitter Chase Taylor and an error led to the Lefties’ second run.
Port Angeles starter Drew Standen was lights-out early, allowing just one hit through his first four innings.
He ran into trouble, however, in the fifth. After striking out Reid Little, he hit Brandon Nicoll. Michael Easter and Caden Casagrande followed it up with consecutive hits to load the bases.
It looked like Standen would escape with the 2-0 lead intact when first baseman Ethan Young charged a soft ground ball to get a force out at home plate.
Consecutive bases-loaded walks and a single gave the NightOwls a 3-2 lead.
The Lefties only managed three more baserunners the rest of the game and Robertson settled in, going six innings and scattering six hits, a walk and striking out three.
Nanaimo added a run in the eighth along with four in the ninth to put the game out of reach.
Port Angeles (6-11) begins a three-game home series tonight with Kelowna. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
