LEFTIES: Port Angeles’ 5-run rally nets first win of the summer

Spear, Ramirez and good relief pitching

PORT ANGELES — A middle-inning rally lifted Port Angeles to its first home victory of the summer and its first West Coast League triumph in an 8-4 triumph over the Wenatchee Apple Sox.

The bottom of the order sparked Port Angeles in the five-run sixth inning.

University of Utah catcher Jack Kleveno’s one-out single started the rally. Zach Blair was hit by a pitch and No. 9 hitter Yahir Ramirez followed with a double to chase Wenatchee pitcher Quincy Vassar from the contest.

The top of the order came around next with Jeremy Giesegh knotting the score at 4-all with a sacrifice fly.

Ethan Kodama walked to load the bases and Roberto Nunez drew another free pass to score Blair as the Lefties went up 5-4 advantage.

Colin Spear’s RBI single brought home Ramirez and Kodama and Port Angeles went up 8-4.

Spear doubled home a run in the third as well and finished the game with three hits.

The Lefties scored twice in the fourth, taking advantage of a walk, a hit batter and a run-scoring error to tie the score at 3-all.

Jack Joyce earned the win, coming on in relief of Port Angeles product Kole Acker and striking out two while scattering three hits across two innings.

A pair of relievers combined to close out the final three innings.

Ryan Wike walked two and gave up a hit but kept the Apple Sox off the board, striking out one batter in his 1.2 innings on the hill.

Edmonds College’s Cade Stuart pitched a clean inning and a third to earn the save.

Port Angeles wrapped its series with Wenatchee late Thursday and will host a three-game nonleague set starting tonight against the Pacific International League’s Gumberoos. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
