Lefties unleash fury on Falcons in 12-0 shutout
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles received its best starting pitching performance of the summer and Chanz Doughty led the Lefties with a double and a home run in his only two at-bats in a 12-0 two-hit shutout of Kelowna at Civic Field on Wednesday.
Seth Wrightstone went six innings on the mound for Port Angeles (3-11), allowing no runs on one hit and two walks with four strikeouts. The Vanguard University lefty lowered his earned-run average to 2.08 over three appearances in 13 innings pitched.
Relievers Takuma Sato, Mason Seay and Ryan Rodriguez combined to allow just one hit the rest of the way with each pitcher tossing an inning of scoreless ball.
The Lefties got going quickly offensively, putting seven runs across after the first two innings.
Taylor Kirk launched his first home run of the season, a deep two-run shot to left field to score Jett Nelson, who had previously drawn a walk, for a 2-0 lead after one frame.
Doughty notched an RBI double in the second, Tommy Markey came through with a two-run single, and an error helped two runs score on Dom Dominguez’s RBI single.
Doughty opened the fourth inning with a solo home run, and the rout was on.
Nelson, Dominguez and Eric Valdivia all joined Doughty in the multi-hit club with two hits apiece.
Port Angeles visits Nanaimo this weekend for a three-game set through Sunday.
