LEFTIES: Lefties muscle up, pound the Elks

BEND, Ore. — The Lefties muscled up with a home run from Kyle Schimpf and 11 hits in routing the Bend Elks 10-4 to even their record at 2-2.

Schimpf (Southeastern Louisiana) hit a two-run home run in the first inning Monday to give the Lefties a lead they would never relinquish. He ended up 2 for 4 on the day with three RBIs.

Jake Portaro (Biola University), a veteran of the Lefties from last season, went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base. Tristan Hanoian (Texas Christian) went 3 for 5 with a run and two RBIs, while Matthew Christian (Campbell University) went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Cameron Allie (Santa Clara) and Trevor Rosenberg (San Diego) each scored a pair of runs for the Lefties, with Rosenberg adding an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Stephen Sepcich Jr. (Tulane) also had an RBI.

On the mound, Tyler Oldenberg (Seattle) started the game, giving up four hits and two earned runs in four innings, with one walk and three strikeouts. Trey Morgan (Southeastern Louisiana) picked up the victory, going four innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs while walking one. Lane Dotson from Chimacum, who now plays for Skagit Valley, pitched the ninth, giving up no hits and striking out two.

The Lefties (2-2) played Bend after press deadline. They play the Elks again at 6:35 p.m. Wedneday and then return to Port Angeles for their league season-opener against the Bellingham Bells at 6:35 p.m. Friday.
