PORT ANGELES — The Lefties lost their second straight one-run game, battling with the Cowlitz Black Bears for 11 innings before finally falling 6-5.

The Lefties pounded out five doubles and got an outstanding pitching performance from starter Rhyse Frey, but their relievers gave up seven walks over the last four innings and that proved to be the Lefties undoing.

Frey (Spokane CC) went 6 2/3 innings, giving up just three hits and two walks and one earned run while striking out six. He left the game with a 5-1 lead, but the Lefties gave up two runs in the eighth and two in the ninth as the game went into extra innings.

The Black Bears scored when a walk given up by DJ Sutorius came in to score on a groundout and then a fielder’s choice.

The Lefties threatened in the bottom of the 11th as David Langer got a leadoff walk and then Dalton Harum hit a double, putting runners on second and third with two out. But, the Lefties Issac Wersland struck out to end the threat and the game.

David Minter had a two-run double for the Lefties and scored a run. David Bedgood and Trey Morgan each had a double, a run scored and an RBI. Werslund had a double while Austin Earl had an RBI.

The Lefties played Wednesday afternoon after press deadline, looking to avoid a sweep against Cowlitz. The Lefties get Thursday off, then travel to Victoria to play the HarbourCats for a three-game at 6:35 p.m. Friday. They return to Civic Field June 19 to play Corvallis.

NOTE: The Lefties’ Kyle Schimpf was named the West Coast League’s Moss Adams Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week. Schimpf, a left-handed batter from Southeastern Louisiana, went 6 for 18 with nine runs scored, two home runs, six RBIs and three stolen bases in six games.
