LEFTIES: Lefties’ Dalton Harum named player of the week

The West Coast League’s Moss Adams Player of the Week for this week is Port Angeles Lefties’ slugger Dalton Harum.

The Player of the Week and the Pitcher of the Week for the WCL were announced Tuesday by league commissioner Rob Neyer on Tuesday. Harum and Virginia Commonwealth’s senior-to-be pitcher Curtis Bafus of the Wenatchee AppleSox were named for the week of July 2-8.

Harum, an incoming junior at Virginia Tech, is third in the league in hitting with a .333 batting average, and went 11-for-21 (.524 batting average) with three home runs and seven RBIs over the past week.

Harum, an outfielder, has hit five home runs and seven doubles among his 30 hits. He also has 11 walks for an on-base percentage of .430. His slugging percentage is .578 and his OPS is a sterling 1.008. This doesn’t count a home run he hit in the season-opening exhibition game against Victoria.

This past spring as a sophomore, Harum hit 11 home runs and collected 54 RBIs while hitting .378 at Wenatchee Valley College.

Bafus tossed 13 innings over two starts this week, and only allowed one earned run while posting a 1-1 mark and striking out 11. This summer, Bafus has made six appearances, five starts and logged 36.2 innings for the AppleSox. He is 3-3 with a 2.95 ERA while striking out 34 and walking only nine.

As a junior with Virginia Commonwealth, Bafus went 2-1 with a 3.81 ERA and one save over 16 appearances, two starts and 28.1 innings pitched.

The Lefties played Highline in a nonleague game after press deadline Tuesday. They meet Highline again at 6:35 p.m. today at Civic Field.
