LEFTIES: Huge Port Angeles comeback against Corvallis falls short

CORVALLIS — The Lefties came all the way back from a 7-0 hole to tie Corvallis late, but the Knights pushed home a game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off single to survive 9-8.

After a rough start by the Lefties’ Joshua Thompson, who gave up seven runs in two innings, Tyler Tan came in to pitch in relief and kept the Lefties in the game as they slowly chipped away at the lead. Tan went six innings, gave up seven hits, one walk and allowed just one earned run while striking out two.

The Lefties scored six runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the lead to 8-6. The big blow was Dalton Harum’s three-run home run in the fifth inning, cutting the margin to two runs.

The Lefties scored a run in the top of the eighth when Ron Brown singled in Jason Dicochea, who had reached on an error and then stole second base. In the top of the ninth, Christian hit a solo home run to tie it at 8-8.

But, in the ninth, Corvallis scored a run to salvage a win and fend off the Lefties huge comeback. The Knights’ Cody Hawken got hit by a pitch from Lefties’ reliever Triston Busse, went to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a fielder’s choice. He came in to score on a single from Brendan Beck.

Christian finished the game 2 for 4 with his home run, a triple, a walk, three runs scored and two RBIs. Harum’s home run was his eighth of the year, which leads the West Coast League along with Zander Clarke of Portland. Harum’s 2 for 4 day — with three RBIs — also raised his average to .359, good for second in the WCL.

Ron Brown was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two walks while Trey Morgan was 1 for 4 ith two runs scored and an RBI.

The Lefties played Sunday afternoon against the Knights. Results of that game were not known before press deadline.
