LEFTIES: Bats shut down in loss against AppleSox

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties ran into a buzzsaw by the name of Ryan Long, who threw seven innings of four-hit shutout ball in a 7-3 Wenatchee win in the Lefties’ home opener.

Long also struck out nine batters and gave up zero walks as the Lefties couldn’t do much damage against the AppleSox hurler on Tuesday night at Civic Field.

After he left the game with a 7-0 lead, the Lefties scored three runs in the eighth and ninth innings to cut into the deficit somewhat, but it was too big of a hole to climb out of.

Ronnie Rust went 2 for 4 with two doubles, while Tyler Bielamowicz went 2 for 4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Connor Denning, Justin Fugitt and Charlie Nasuti all had singles.

On the mound, Jonny Chavez started and was roughed up for nine hits and five earned runs in five innings. Kyle Hemrick pitched the final four innings, giving up two runs on four hits.

The Lefties (6-7) played Wednesday against the AppleSox (5-6) and will wrap up their series with Wenatchee at 6:35 p.m. tonight at Civic Field. On Friday, they go on a brief road trip to Walla Walla to play a three-game series against the Sweets.
