Lefties: Bats go quiet in Edmonton

Lefties fall in Canada

EDMONTON, Alberta — Port Angeles and Edmonton made the flight to the Great White North but the Lefties’ offense appeared to have been left in the U.S. in a 7-1 West Coast League defeat Tuesday night.

The Riverhawks took an early 3-0 lead on the strength of an RBI single and two sacrifice flies in the span of the second and third frames off Port Angeles starter Cade Stuart.

Back-to-back leadoff singles by Travis Heim and Corey Jarrell gave the Lefties life in the top of the fifth inning.

But Port Angeles could only muster one run out of the situation on three straight infield outs — a Brock Mayer putout brought Helm home for the Lefties’ lone run.

Stuart ate up some innings for Port Angeles, going six innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits and a walk with a strikeout.

Reliever Jamie Olson couldn’t record an out in the seventh inning, giving up three earned runs on two hits and a walk against three batters as Edmonton salted the game away.

Port Angeles (12-37) and Edmonton (16-33) are at it again tonight with first pitch at 6:05 p.m.
