Lefties’ bats fizzle out vs. Sox

Muster only two base hits

PORT ANGELES — Three first-inning errors by the Lefties led to three first-inning runs for Wenatchee and sank Port Angeles’ shot at an Independence Day win in a 7-0 shutout defeat.

First baseman Ethan Young made two of the three miscues in the field.

The Apple Sox took advantage of some small-ball tactics, recording seven hits, swiping four bases, scoring two runs via sacrifice fly and a couple more on fielder’s choice plays.

Wenatchee second baseman Frankie Carney was 2-for-4 on the night, scoring on an error by Young.

Apple Sox shortstop Izzy Lopez later followed with an RBI single.

Port Angeles’ offensive woes continued with the Lefties managing just two hits while being shut out for the third time in the team’s six-game losing skid.

Wenatchee starter Garrett Gores was impressive, going eight innings while allowing just the two hits with 11 strikeouts.

Gores retired the last 18 batters he faced before giving way to Braiden Boyd, who gave up a walk in the ninth with a strikeout.

Port Angeles starter Drew Standen suffered his fourth loss of the season (1-4) after surrendering five runs in the first four innings.

The Lefties (8-20) wrap the three-game set with Wenatchee (19-6) tonight and will face the Redmond Dudes in non-league action Friday through Sunday.
