LEFTIES: Bats come alive in win over Guns

PORT ANGELES — The Lefties got shut out for five innings, but their offense woke up for five runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh as Port Angeles got shutdown pitching down the stretch to beat the West Coast Guns 8-5.

Thursday’s Game

Wenatchee 5, Port Angeles 0

PORT ANGELES — Wenatchee starter McKabe Cottrell wasn’t quite perfect, but he came pretty close in firing a complete-game, two-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Port Angeles.

McKabe retired the first 17 batters he faced in Thursday’s contest before his bid for the first perfect game in West Coast League history was broken up by a two-out bunt single by the Lefties’ Aki Buckson.

A freshman at Gonzaga, McKabe struck out 10 and walked none in the game.

The Lefties lone hit out of the infield came on a two-out double by Austyn Tengan in the bottom of the ninth.

McKabe received offensive assistance in the form of a solo home run to left field by Adrian Vela, an RBI single and sacrifice fly by Jacob Prater and an RBI single by Jack Reisinger.

Evan Johnson drove in a run on a groundout for his WCL-leading 46th RBI.

The win completed Wenatchee’s series (3-0) and season sweep (6-0) of the Lefties (6-13, 16-31).

The Lefties played at Yakima Valley Saturday after press deadline. They will play at 5:05 p.m. Sunday at Yakima.
