Lavender Tour seeking volunteers

SEQUIM — The Tour de Lavender cycling event is looking for volunteers to help run the Aug. 6 event along the Olympic Discovery Trail through the Sequim and Dungeness valleys.

Prior to the event, shoppers are needed for food/water stops, setting up signs and doing pre-ride trail maintenance.

Volunteers are also needed at lavender farm food and water stations and support and gear stops. Delivery of food and water is also needed to each of the eight farms the day before the ride. People can contact Brian Anderson at info@ olympicdiscoverytrail.org or 360-775-5395 if they are interested.

On the day of the tour, “Tiger Teams” are needed to deliver food and water to stations in case they run out. Roving support volunteers are also needed to assist riders who have breakdowns or flat tires or get lost. People can contact Tim Tucker at timtucker27@gmail.com or 360-775-1849 to volunteer.

Volunteers are needed to hand out food and water at the start and finish area at the Boys & Girls Club at 400 W. Fir St. in Sequim. People can contact Lorrie Mittman at lorrie.mittmann@gmail.com or 360-775-4620 to volunteer.

Those who help out will receive a Tour de Lavender volunteers hat. Volunteers can also enjoy pizza and beverages from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Boys & Girls Club.

The Tour de Lavender is an annual cycling event sponsored by the Peninsula Trails Coalition in partnership with lavender farms in the Sequim-Dungeness valleys.

Through the Tour de Lavender, the coalition seeks to promote awareness and appreciation of the unique beauty of the Olympic Peninsula and the world-class lavender farms in “America’s Provence.”

Since 2013, more than $50,000 in proceeds from the tour have been donated to local nonprofits.

This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Olympic Discovery Trail.
