(Updated) Familiar winners abound in Port Townsend race

Top times run in half-marathon, 10K and 5K events

PORT TOWNSEND — Familiar names took top honors in the return of the Larry Scott Trail Run this weekend in and around Port Townsend.

The Larry Scott Trail Run is part of the Run the Peninsula series. Run the Peninsula also puts on the North Olympic Discovery Marathon (NODM) and other local races.

The Larry Scott Trail Run’s title sponsors are the Peninsula Daily News and the Sequim Gazette. The presenting sponsors are Jefferson Healthcare and Olympic Medical Center.

Keith Laverty, a Sequim High School grad who now lives in Bainbridge, won the half-marathon in a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes, 58.44 seconds, a gap of 12½ minutes over second place. Laverty is a former winner of the North Olympic Discovery Marathon, Rhody Run and GOAT Run.

Winning the women’s half-marathon was Savanna Steffen of Silverdale in a time of 1:32:38.55, a gap of 14 minutes over second place. Steffen is a former NODM half-marathon and Elwha Bridge Run winner. Steffen’s time was good for third overall.

Winning the 10K was Anacortes’ Cataldo DiDonna in a time of 33:28.59.

Familiar names were in the top three. Langdon Larson, a Port Angeles cross-country runner, was second at 36:34.78, while Port Townsend City Manger John Mauro, who won the NODM marathon in June, was third at 37:12.04.

Winning the women’s 10K was 10-year-old Eleanor Gould Jones of Sequim in a time of 47:04.53. Coming in second was Eleanor’s mom, Laura Gould of Sequim, in 47:05.28.

The 5K winner was Jesse Tsai of Brier, a repeat winner, in a time of 18:13.7.

Winning the women’s 5K was Port Angeles high school runner Leia Larson, a repeat winner of Run the Peninsula races, in a time of 20:59.50. Larson’s time was good for fifth overall.
