JUNIOR BABE RUTH: Swain’s wins pair of games

PORT ANGELES — Swain’s defeated Local 155 10-7 and pushed into a tie for first place with Local in Junior Babe Ruth action Monday.

Luke Flodstrom cruised on the mound to start, striking out four and giving up three earned runs. Third baseman Tate Alton had a great fielding day, making seven putouts.

The Swains bats were hot with Trae Hanan, Hunter Tennell and Jordan Shumway all going 3-for-3. Shumway belted towering shots off the wall for a double and a triple.

Daniel Benoit had a well-placed bunt to drive in a run and Eden Peterson made a couple of running catches in the outfield. Khyler Thompson came in to close the door for Swain’s, striking out three. For Local, Alex Angevine was 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBIs and Cole Beeman was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

On Sunday, Swain’s defeated Forks 13-9. Alton pitched well and only gave up one run in three innings. Alton also went 4-for-4, driving in four runs.

Swains took an early lead 8-1 on doubles by Ethan Swenson, Flodstrom and Shumway.

Joseph Ritchie and Ryland Proettie also went 2-for-3 on the day.

Swain’s had trouble finding the strike zone in the fifth inning and Forks took advantage, closing the gap to 10-9. Three runs by Swain’s made it 13-9. Hunter Tennell came in to close the door on the mound for Swains, not allowing a run.

For Forks, Dylan Micheau was 1-for-2 with a double.
