Sequim goalkeeper Nolan Valenzuela was selected as the Olympic League Defensive MVP in All-Olympic League boys soccer team voting conducted by league coaches.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Sequim’s Valenzuela picked as Olympic League soccer defensive MVP, PA’s Miller, Butterworth first-teamers

SEQUIM — Sequim senior goalkeeper Nolan Valenzuela earned Defensive MVP honors in All-Olympic League boys soccer team voting conducted by league coaches.

Valenzuela recently committed to continue his soccer career with Peninsula College.

He also was a recent recipient of a 2025-26 Jimmy Gabriel Memorial Scholarship for $1,500 from the Washington State Legends of Soccer. Gabriel was a soccer professional from Scotland who played and then coached for Seattle Sounders, University of Washington and Washington Youth Soccer.

Valenzuela also posted four shutouts in goal and kept Sequim (8-10) in a number of contests this season.

Sequim striker Josh Alcaraz was a first-team pick, along with junior classmate Nicco Musso.

Senior Evan Cisneros and junior Colin Feik were second-team picks for the Wolves.

Port Angeles’ leading goal scorer, Matthew Miller, was a first-team selection after scoring 22 goals with eight assists. Miller tallied three hat tricks and two other games with two goals, scoring 56 percent of the Roughriders’ 39 total goals in 2025.

Junior defender Grant Butterworth also was named to the first team for Port Angeles. Head coach Chris Saari called Butterworth “the backbone of our defense.”

Butterworth also scored a goal and dished out an assist this spring.

Sophomore midfielder Kanyon Anderson was voted to the second team for the Riders. He recorded five goals and added a team-high 11 assists.

Senior goalkeeper Gus Halberg also made the second team in his first and only varsity soccer season. Halberg, who previously played for Storm King Soccer Club, had seven shutouts for the Roughriders (12-8).

Bainbridge junior Cruz Piland was voted Offensive MVP.

Sportsmanship Awards were given to Port Angeles’ Jackson Wyall and Valenzuela for Sequim.

Rivals honored

PORT TOWNSEND — East Jefferson senior striker Simon Barlow was a first-team All-Nisqually League boys soccer team selection in voting conducted by league coaches.

Freshman striker Alan Morales, along with Finn Evans and Emillio Lopez, were honorable mention honorees for the Rivals.

Cascade Christian senior Kyle Hughes was picked as MVP, while Vashon sophomore Mason Haynes was the Offensive Player of the Year and Pirates’ teammate Gavin Keenan was picked as the Defensive Player of the Year.

Cascade’s senior goalkeeper, Taylor Yeh, was picked as the Goalkeeper of the Year, and Klahowya coach Jeff Quinn was picked Coach of the Year.

Nisqually Baseball

PORT TOWNSEND — East Jefferson seniors Evan Kraft and Peter Giddens earned honorable mention honors in voting for the All-Nisqually League baseball team held by league coaches.

Bellevue Christian’s Cash Erdman and Klahowya’s Aiden Michael split the league MVP award.

Henry Cheney of Charles Wright/Life Christian was the Coach of the Year.

Softball honors

PORT TOWNSEND — East Jefferson sophomore Breanne Huntingford and junior RJ Spainhower Oas were named to the second-team in voting for the All-Nisqually League softball team held by league coaches.

Cascade Christian senior Kailee Pearson was tabbed as MVP.

Olson second-team pick

PORT TOWNSEND — East Jefferson boys golfer Ryan Olson was a second-team All-Nisqually League boys golf team pick as voted by league coaches.

Annie Wright’s Wilson Dicks was the boys MVP.

No East Jefferson girls players were picked all-league, but the team did split the sportsmanship award with Klahowya.

Seattle Christian’s Ginevra Saloy was named MVP.
