RENTON — Opponents and times have been set at the 2A and 1B girls state basketball tournaments for Clallam Bay, Neah Bay and Port Angeles basketball teams.
The Port Angeles girls, coming off a 1-point regional loss to No. 3 ranked Tumwater, will begin play at the 2A state tournament at the SunDome in Yakima at 9 a.m. Wednesday against Clarkston.
Clarkston is 19-6 and won its regional game against Franklin Pierce 56-31. Port Angeles (19-5) also beat Franklin Pierce in the West Central District III 2A tournament by a score of 62-38. This is a loser-out game to move on to the quarterfinals of the state tournament.
If the Roughriders win Wednesday, they play again Thursday against Burlington-Edison, which beat the Riders 66-61 early in the season. Burlington-Edison is ranked No. 6 in the state in Ratings Percentage Index rankings, while Port Angeles is ranked No. 7. Clarkston is ranked No. 13.
Clallam Bay, which has had to play several loser-out games to get to this point, won its regionals game 57-51 over Riverside Christian to earn a trip to the State 1B Tournament in Spokane. The Bruins (18-6) will play Wellpinit (16-7) in a late-night game at 9 p.m. Wednesday. This is another loser-out game for Clallam Bay.
If Clallam Bay wins, the Bruins will play Inchelium (22-2) at 9 p.m. Thursday. Inchelium is the No. 2-ranked team in the state. Clallam Bay is ranked No. 10 and Wellpinit No. 9.
Neah Bay, ranked No. 4 in the state, gets a first-round bye at the state tournament after winning its regional game 52-45 over Mount Vernon Christian. The Red Devils (18-5) will not play until Thursday, when they play the winner of Lummi (18-9) and Oakesdale (16-7) at 3:45 p.m. Oakesdale, despite seven losses, is ranked No. 3 in the state RPI, while Lummi is ranked No. 16.
Neah Bay gets to keep playing in the state tournament, regardless of whether they win or lose Thursday. If the Red Devils win, they are already in the state semifinals at 7:15 p.m. Friday. Lose and they move on to the consolation bracket at 12:15 p.m. Friday with a chance to finish as high as fourth.
