GYMNASTICS: Three Port Angeles, Sequim gymnasts on to state

KENT — Three Port Angeles and Sequim gymnasts moved on to the state gymnastics meet thanks to their performances at the district meet late last week at the Metropolitan Gymnastics Center.

The team had to overcome snow, downed power lines and a redirected ferry route to make to the meet 90 minutes late.

“We rose above the difficult circumstances and the girls worked hard to complete their best,” said coach Rachel Sharp.

Port Angeles’ Scarlett Sullivan qualified for state on the vault with an 8.5, the bars with a 6.8 and the beam with a 7.975.

Sequim’s Lucy Spelker will head to state in the bualt with an 8.7, good for seventh. And the beam with an 8.25 and the floor exercise with a 9.050. Her teammate Susannah Sharp was fifth in the vault with an 8.675. She also qualified on the floor exercise with an 8.875.

The state 2A/3A/4A meet will be held Friday at Sammamish High School.
