GYMNASTICS: Three North Olympic Peninsula gymnasts go on to state

PUYALLUP — Three North Olympic Peninsula gymnasts qualified for the state gymnastics meet at the 2A/3A West Central District 3 meet held last week.

Sequim’s Alex Schmadeke finished second in the beam with a 9.275, fourth in the floor exercise with a 9.275 and six in the vault with an 8.575. She also advanced to state on the bars with a 7.8.

Jessamyn Schindler of Port Angeles qualified for state, coming in fifth in the vault with an 8.7. She also advanced to state with an 8.425 on the beam.

Susanah Sharp of Sequim qualified by finishing eighth in the vault with an 8.5.

“This was the highest level of competition at a district meet that I have seen in my nine years of coaching,” said coach Jackie Mangano.

The state meet begins Friday at Sammamish High School in Bellevue.
