GYMNASTICS: Port Angeles wins district championship, will compete as team at state meet

AUBURN — The Port Angeles gymnastics team won the 2A/3A West Central District 3 Championship on Saturday, qualifying the entire team to compete at the state meet at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall Thursday through Saturday.

The Roughriders took first place at the meet held at Auburn Mountainview High School with a score of 148.8. Timberline took second with a score of 139.85 and will also go to Tacoma.

Additionally, Sequim gymnasts Lesae Pfeffer and Elizabeth Sweet, who practice with the Port Angeles team but compete as individuals, qualified for state as individuals, both in the floor exercices. Sweet scored an 8.225, while Pfeffer scored 7.5.

Port Angeles’ Maya Wharton won the floor exercise with a 9.25 and finished third in all-around points with 32.05.
