POULSBO — The Port Angeles gymnastics team broke their previous high team score, beating Kingston 160.35 to 133.

“Despite their banged up bodies, our girls had a very productive meet tonight,” said coach Megan Monds.

Cassii Middlestead won the beam exercise at Friday’s meet, while Maya Wharton won the floor exercise. Wharton finished second in the all-around, while Middlestead was third. Sequim’s Lesae Pfeffer came in eighth.

Boys Swimming Kingston 126, Sequim 38

SEQUIM — The Wolves had plenty of solid performances in an Olympic League loss to the Buccaneers.

Jax Thaxton dropped four seconds off his 200 free time to come within one second of a district qualifying mark.

Sequim’s 200 medley relay team of Sam Frymer, Michael Larsen, Steve Nguyen and James Thayer trimmed nine seconds off their previous best.

“Sam Frymer’s backstroke technique is improving quickly,” Wolves coach Linda Moats said.

Frymer swam the 500 freestyle for the first time and was able to increase his speed toward the end of the race.

“That’s difficult to do even for veteran swimmers,” Moats said.

Frymer capped off a busy meet by swimming the 100 backstroke.

Liam Payne was second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 individual medley against “tough competition,” according to Moats.

Alex Berikoff (0.4 seconds), Christian Goodrich (0.2) and Larsen (0.5) all dropped time in the 50 free for the Wolves.

Sequim (0-6) hosts North Kitsap on Thursday for a senior night meet.
