GYMNASTICS: Klahhane gymnasts bring home batch of medals

BREMERTON — The Klahhane Gymnastics XCel Team opened its winter season at The Freedom Invitational hosted by Cascade Elite Gymnastics West at the Kitsap Sun Pavilion in Bremerton this weekend, with more than 1,100 girls competing over four days.

Klahhane started off the meet on Thursday with a good performance from the Bronze Team. McKinlee Thomason (Junior C) and Zayliegh McCullem (Junior A) led, with both finishing fourth all-around in their age groups with scores of 36.4 and 35.3, respectively.

McCullum was first on vault and Thomason second on floor exercise. Lorelei Sanders (Senior C) had some stiff competition but picked up two gold medals on vault (9.30) and beam (8.40). Laquoia DePiro (Junior B) placed fifth on the vault (8.70).

The silver team competed in the last evening session. Emily Bair (Senior C) and Abi Odland (Junior A) led, with both finishing fourth in their age groups. Bair edged Odland by 0.1 in scoring with 36.35 to Odland’s 36.25. Bair picked up individual medals with a third place on beam and fourth on vault and floor. Odland took the gold medal on the bars with an impressive 9.6. She placed third in both the vault and floor exercise.

On Saturday, the platinum team was led by veterans Mariah Traband (Junior C), who was third in the all-around with 35.275. Traband picked up individual medals with a second on the bars and third on both the vault and beam.

Scarlett Sullivan (Junior D) finished fourth with a 35.90 all-around. Sullivan was second on the vault with an 8.8 and third on the beam with an 8.95.

Elyse Brown scored 35.375 for fourth place all-around in the Junior A competition.

CarlyMae Riggs had the best showing on Sunday. Moving up to the gold division, Riggs walked away with the Child A all-around gold medal with a 36.575. She scored individual gold medals on the vault (9.0), bars (9.4) and floor (9.425).

Teammate Paytynn Lindley (Junior A) was right behind her, taking the silver all-around with a 35.45. She finished second on the floor (9.35) and third on the vault (8.45).

Gracelyn Goss (Junior A) finished second on the bars (9.35) and fourth on the beam (9.0). Lainey DePiro (Junior B) took a pair of fourth-place medals on bars (9.175) and floor (9.40). Raynee Ciarlo (Junior B) performed well on the floor, scoring 9.25.

The gold and platinum teams will travel to Olympia for the Fire & Ice Invitation on Saturday.
