GYMNASTICS: Klahhane duo qualifies for regionals

PUYALLUP — The Klahhane Gymnastics Girls Xcel Team was among 1,550 girls participating in the Washington State Xcel Championship April 1-3 at the Puyallup Fair Mattress Firm Showplex.

Klahhane had girls competing in three of the five Xcel Divisions. Two girls will represent Klahhane Gymnastics in the USA Gymnastics Region 2 Championship Meet April 30-May 1 at the Evergreen Fairgrounds in Monroe. The meet will include gymnasts from Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana and Oregon.

In the gold division, Mariah Traband finished with an all-round score of 36.375 to grab a spot in the allocation for Washington. Traband also finished ninth in her age group and fifth on vault.

Competing in the gold division were Taylor Bugge, scoring 9.225 on beam for eighth place in the senior C group; Neveah Thurman DuPuis scored an 35.80 in the all-around and finished eighth on balance beam (9.25) in junior B; Kira Hartman, junior B (35.60 all-around) and Lucy Spelker, senior C (35.575 all-around).

Scarlett Sullivan, the only platinum competitor for Klahhane, advanced to the regional meet by scoring above the minimum qualifying score of 35.0. Sullivan hit all her routines consistently across all four events and finished 13th in her age group.

In the silver division, Gracelyn Goss had an excellent meet, finishing with the highest score on the team. Her all-around score of 37.10 earned her 12th place in the high-scoring child G age group. Elyse Brown, competing in the junior C age group, finished 10th scoring 36.85 all-around.

Brown had the top score on vault in her age group with 9.650. The Klahhane team had a good day on vault. Saffron Tschida also took top honors in vault, scoring 9.775 in the junior F age group. Daylen Williams’ score of 9.675 in the senior B age group was good for third place, and Harper Hilliker scored 9.30 in the children G age group. The silver team will compete in the regional meet for bronze and silver gymnasts on April 29 at the Evergreen Fairgrounds.
