GYMNASTICS: Klahhane athletes medal at regionals

MONROE — Klahhane gymnasts won a number of medals at the Region 2 Xcel Gymnastics Championships held from Friday to Sunday at the Evergreen State Fairgounds Event Center.

A total of 727 girls representing the six states competed.

In Friday competition, the Klahhane Silver Team participated in the Invitational, a combined team and individual meet. Team scores were calculated by adding the top three scores on each event. Klahhane finished eighth out of the 16 teams with a score of 113.15. SPORT Gymnastics from Wenatchee won the team competition scoring 115.85 .

In individual competition, all of the Silver Team girls achieved personal best all-around scores. Competing in the Child B age group, Harper Hilliker had the highest all-around for Klahhane with a 37.45, good for ninth place. She received a fifth-place medal on the vault (9.65) and scored 9.55 on the bars for eighth.

Gracelyn Goss (37.35) and Elyse Brown (37.20) finished 11th and 12th all-around. Goss picked pick up a silver medal for her 9.65 score on uneven bars and was sixth on beam with a 9.45. Brown was the first competitor of the meet on floor exercise and her score of 9.4 held up for a bronze medal. Brown then picked up a second bronze for her 9.70 on the vault.

Raynee Ciarlo rounded out the Child B group with a personal-best all-around of 37.10 for 14th. She was also 10th on the bars with a 9.50.

Daylen Williams, competing in the Senior B age group, finished sixth in the vault (9.45), 14th on bars (9.40) and a personal best of 36.8 for 17th in the all-around.

On Saturday, Mariah Traband and Taylor Bugge competed for individual honors in the gold division. The top 240 girls in Region 2 qualified by allocation into this competition.

Traband competed in the Youth A age group, finishing with a 9.3 on the vault for fifth place. She finished 11th in the floor exercise (9.32) and had a personal-best score of 36.70 for 15th in the all-around.

Competing in the Senior B age group, Bugge took bronze on the beam (9.45), ninth on the vault (9.3) and had a personal-best in the all-around with a 36.50, good for 13th.

On Sunday, Scarlett Sullivan competed in the platinum division competition. These gymnasts qualified based on their score at the state meet. Sullivan had a personal best of 35.675, good for 15th and finished 10th on the vault (9.25).

Mens Development Program Western Championships

Liam DeWolf competed in the Mens Development Program Western Championships in Reno, Nev., on Saturday. The meet featured the top gymnasts in regions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 9.

DeWolf competed in the Level 8, Youth B age group and took the silver medal on the vault with a 12.0 and finished eighth on the pommel horse with a 12.0. He finished 13th in the all-around with a 66.80.

Connor DeWolf was scheduled to compete in Level 9, but had to withdraw due to illness. This meet concluded the men’s competition for the 2021-22 season.
