GYMNASTICS: Klahhane adds team and begins season

PORT ANGELES — The expanded Klahhane Gymnastics teams had a solid start to their season at the Pumpkin Fest Meet at Metropolitan Gymnastics in Kent on Saturday.

For the newly formed bronze team members, this was their first introduction to competition.

“We were looking for a relatively small meet but one with a high level of competition and this one was a great fit,” said Klahhane Director Jan Urfer. The team exceeded expectations with five out of the eight gymnasts achieving or exceeding the 35.0 qualifying score to advance to the state meet in the spring.

Bronze Division gymnastics only receive all-around awards and are awarded an event ribbon for individual events. No team awards were given.

Receiving medals were CarlyMae Riggs, first, junior A (37.35 all-around); Paytynn Lindley, third, senior A (36.20); Lainey Depiro, fourth, senior B (35.95); and Charlotte Nevil, fifth, junior B (35.50). Also receiving a state-qualifying score was Raeleigh Thomason, senior B (35.20). McKinlee Thomason, junior C; Morgan Smith, senior A; and Harper Waterkotte, senior A, round out the bronze team roster.

Returning team members competing in the gold and platinum divisions in the afternoon session also turned in solid performances. The qualifying score for state in the gold and platinum divisions is a 34.0 all-around.
