GYMNASTICS: Final tuneup for Peninsula prep gymnasts

POULSBO — The Port Angeles gymnastics team had a very narrow loss to North Kitsap in a dual competition this weekend.

North Kitsap won the Thursday event 146-140.

Sequim’s Emma Sharp won the beam competition with an 8.6 and Port Angeles’ Aiesha LaTourette won the vault with an 8.5. Sharp was also second in the floor exercise with an 8.55 and second overall with 30.15 points.

Vault — LaTourette, PA, first, 8.5; Sharp, Sequim, fourth, 8.2; Mei Ying Harper-Smith, PA, sixth, 8.0; Lesae Pfeffer, Sequim, seventh, 7.9

Bars — Harper-Smith, PA, fourth, 5.75; LaTourette, PA, fifth, 5.45; Danica Pierson, Sequim, seventh, 5.45.

Beam — Harper-Smith, PA, third, 8.2; Lesae Pfeffer, Sequim, sixth, 7.8; LaTourette, PA, eighth, 7.6.

Floor — Pfeffer, Sequim, fourth, 7.95; Harper-Smith, PA, sixth, 7.3.

All-Around — Sharp, Sequim, second, 30.15, Harper-Smith, PA, third, 29.25; LaTourette, PA, fifth, 28.85.

The team’s next meet will be held at the 2A/3A Olympic-PCL-SSC Subdistricts at the Auburn Gymnastics Center in DuPont on Thursday, Feb. 7. The Port Angeles team will be split into teams from Port Angeles, Sequim and Crescent for the postseason. Also competing at the meet with be North Kitsap, Kingston, Capital, Bonney Lake, North Thurston and Timberline.

Two full teams, eight individuals per event and four top all-around scorers will move on to district.
