MEMBERS OF THE Port Townsend Women’s Golf Club are reaching out with a month-long series of Wednesday evening golf outings for women who work.
To encourage women who work to learn and play golf, the Port Townsend Women’s Golf Club (PTWGC) has reserved 5 p.m. tee times at Port Townsend Golf Club each Wednesday from May 30 through June 27.
The women’s group’s usual games are Tuesday mornings and many working women are unable to participate.
Three or four of the current PTWGC members will be there each Wednesday evening to share their experience with new golfers while playing a few holes of golf.
This is just for fun, for learning the game and rules, or to “get back into it” for those who have previously played the game.
Interested golfers should meet at Port Townsend Golf Club at 5 p.m. any Wednesday from May 30 to June 27.
The first three women to participate at this dedicated time will get a free round of golf sponsored by PTWGC.

PINK UP tourney
Soroptimist of Port Angeles Noon Club will hold its 14th annual golf tournament benefit for Operation Uplift at Peninsula Golf Club in Port Angeles on June 22.
The event is a four-person scramble format with a noon shotgun start. A buffet will follow, as well as the awarding of cash prizes and a 50/50 drawing.
A hole-in-one prize also will be sponsored by The Mac Ruddell Community Fund through Ruddell Auto Mall.
All the proceeds will go to Operation Uplift, an organization that helps cancer patients with all kinds of services while going through cancer treatments.
Operation Uplift has wigs, prosthesis, gas cards and a 24/7 help line. This is a volunteer-run organization and all funds are used locally on the peninsula.
Disco Bay update
Discovery Bay Golf Course near Port Townsend has a new piece of equipment to keep its greens in tip-top condition.
“We have purchased a new greens roller and are currently rolling our putting greens three days a week in between mowing,” Discovery Bay head golf pro Jeff Kent said. “Keeps the greens smooth and fast.”
Kent said the course’s $10 golf clinics are getting popular. Kent leads small groups through the game’s fundamentals at 3 p.m. each Tuesday during the season.
The course’s Thursday evening nine-hole league started last week. Openings exist for the league’s second half which will begin the first week of July.
Discovery Bay also has a Players Club deal going in which golfers can pay $125 and receive 20 percent off green fees for the year.
And the Discovery Bay Men’s Club and Ladies 9-Holers and 18-Holers have started their regular weekly play.

Spring Shotgun
Peninsula Golf Club in Port Angeles, will host its 57th annual Spring Shotgun event Saturday and Sunday.
A two-man or two-woman team shamble format event, the tournament is open to the public and includes a practice round Friday
Players must be age 21 or older. The maximum handicap is 36 and there can be an eight-stroke differential between partners.
In shamble format play, teams pick the best drive off the tee and then each player plays their own ball through the remainder of the hole. A minimum of six drives must be used per player per round.
Entry fees are $240 per team. Green fees, driving range, lunch and drink tickets are included.
Play will tee off with a 10 a.m. shotgun start on both days of the tournament.
Prizes and fun also are planned.
A get-together featuring hors d’oeuvres will be held Saturday evening following play.

TaylorMade fit
Port Ludlow Golf Course will host a TaylorMade Golf Fitting Day from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 24.

PC fundraiser
Registration is open for the annual Peninsula College Pirate Athletic Association Golf Tournament at Sequim’s Cedars at Dungeness on Saturday, June 2.
The four-person scramble event will tee off with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
Entry fees are $400 per team, $100 per golfer, and will include 18 holes of golf with cart, appetizers and drinks, tee prizes for all, lunch and shots at prizes.
Not all of those shots will be golf-related. Players will have a chance to shoot a basketball and kick a soccer ball on select holes.
Wilder Auto is sponsoring hole-in-one prizes on par 3 holes, and there will be KP prizes for select par-3s.
Long drive contests for men’s and women’s players are planned.
Prizes for men’s first place and second place division and the women’s first place division also are planned.
