PLAYERS AND SPONSORS are needed for the Wilder Baseball Club’s first fundraising tournament, set for Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim on Sunday, June 8.
The four-person scramble event will tee it up at 1:30 p.m.
There will be KP and long drive prizes and a chance to win a car provided by Wilder Auto by virtue of a hole-in-one.
In a unique twist, players also may tee off with a baseball bat and golf ball on the par-5 sixth hole.
Cost is $100 per player, or $360 per team if paid all at one time, and will include green fees, cart rental, a box lunch and range balls.
Tee and green sponsorships are available for $100.
The players that comprise Wilder Baseball Club are the North Olympic Peninsula’s boys of summer, an elite Senior Babe Ruth team for players 17-18 and a junior team of players ages 14-16.
Players are welcome from all across the North Olympic Peninsula and this year’s rosters include players from Jefferson and Clallam counties.

SkyRidge anniversary
SkyRidge Golf Course in Sequim will turn 11 years old in June and will celebrate the milestone with SkyRidge Anniversary Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 7.
The two-person modified chapman event will have a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Cost is $70 per team and includes golf, range balls, lunch after play and a shot at KP and long putt prizes. A horse race contest may be held after lunch.
An optional honey pot is $30 per team.
Each player will hit a tee shot, and then hit each other’s ball for the second shot.
It then becomes alternate shot, using the better of the two second shots.
Team handicap will be 60 percent of the low handicap player and 40 percent of the high cap player.
Cart use is $15 per seat.
Peninsula takes cup
You can’t keep Peninsula Golf Club down. . . or away from first place in the annual Peninsula Cup.
The Port Angeles-based crew claimed the Cup for the third time in six years after dropping host Port Ludlow 584-586.
Peninsula team members are Steve Jones, Tim Lusk, Jim Cole, Bud Fraser, Gerald Petersen, Bernie Anselmo, Jade Tisdale and Greg Shield.
It was only the second time that a visiting team had claimed the cup, the hosts having won four of the first five events.
Organizer Tom Jones of Port Ludlow wrote in to say that a big highlight occurred during orientation prior to play when the whole group of players assembled, gave tribute to Ray DeJong who ran the event from its inception until this year.
DeJong came out for the SunLand Golf & Country Club team and fired a 91.
Tim Lusk led the way for Peninsula with an even-par 72 on Ludlow’s Tide and Timber nines.
Shelley Washburn led Port Ludlow with a one-under-par 71.
Washburn is the defending champion of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association’s Super Senior championship and will defend his title in Oregon in June.
The Cedars at Dungeness was third at 595, Discovery Bay was fourth at 618, SunLand fifth at 633 and the defending champion team from SkyRidge finished sixth with a 648.
Port Townsend was unable to field a team due to hosting the annual Jack Caldwell Memorial Rhododendron Festival benefit tournament.
Pat Fowler had the low net score, a 67, for Port Ludlow.
The event was sponsored by The Cedars Resort and Casino, Sound Community Bank, the Les Schwab Tires location in Sequim and Peninsula Daily News.
The seventh annual Peninsula Cup event will be held at Cedars at Dungeness in 2015.
Cedars Woman’s group
Bonney Benson wrote in to let me know the Cedars at Dungeness Woman’s Golf Club is off and running, meeting Tuesday mornings (when course schedule permits) mornings at 7:45 a.m.
This allows members time to check-in, pay for competition and figure out pairings.
In the past few weeks the group’s numbers have been growing as they welcomed new members Bobbie Piety, Cathy Grant and Barb Slagaske plus returning members, Marine Hirschfeld, Gail Savage, Irene Schmidt, Judy Reno, Lucille Blydestein and Lindsay Busch.
The group’s annual President’s Cup Match Play event will be starting soon.
Plans also are forming for the group’s annual invitational tournament The Days of Whine and Roses on Sept. 15-16.
A total of 106 ladies played in the invite last year.

Discovery Bay party
Port Townsend-area course Discovery Bay will offer reduced green fees of $8.90 on Saturday, June 7, in recognition of the course’s 89th anniversary.
In addition, an 89-cent hot dog and soda special in the clubhouse snack bar is planned until 2 p.m. or while supplies last.
Wilson Staff is turning 100 this year, and in conjunction with the celebration, a Wilson Staff sales rep will be on hand to conduct a custom fitting/demo day with the brand’s newest product lines from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Discovery Bay’s Ladies Golf Clinic will tee it up for the first time Friday, June 6.
This is a six-week series of lessons covering everything from grip, stance and posture all the way through wedge play and how to hit a driver.
Golfers can choose from attending all six lessons for $50, or $10 per clinic.
Space in the series is limited in order to provide more instructor/student teaching.

Lusk hole-in-one
Tim Lusk aced the 157-yard par-3 14th hole during last Thursday’s men’s club competition at Peninsula Golf Club.
The second ace of Lusk’s career was witnessed by a trio of other exceptional golfers: Mike Dupuis, Rob Botero and Gary Thorne.
Lusk also won the individual gross medal play competition with a round of 69 and he and Dupuis won the team gross contest with a score of 64.
