TIME’S RUNNING OUT to vote for Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim as “Best Golf Course” in TV’s Evening Magazine’s annual “The Best of Western Washington” voting that ends Friday.
Cedars, which finished fourth out of 55 entrants in the contest last year, faces stiff competition in last’s year’s champion and host of the 2015 U. S. Open, Chambers Bay.
Other tough contestants include the Golf Club at Newcastle, Harbor Pointe Golf Club in Mukilteo and Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton.
Contest winners will be announced in November and featured in an “Evening Magazine” profile in the future.

Peninsula ladies wrap
Sandy Granger checked in to let me know Peninsula Golf Club’s Ladies Club finished their 2014 season with a great awards luncheon last Wednesday in the Peninsula Clubhouse.
Recognition was given to the winners of several competitions throughout the season and team captain Cindy Schlaffman presented awards to these champions with engraved trophies and plaques on display.
A new slate of officers was elected with Schlaffman as president, Linda Bruch vice president, Granger as secretary-treasurer and Denise Clarke as team captain.
A nine hole scramble was held prior to the business meeting and luncheon with three teams tying for the top spot.
These included Sherry Henderson, Granger, Helen Arnold, and Boots Reidel; Dolly Burnett, Sue Priest, Duffy DeFrang and Bruch, Barb Thompson, and Ruth Thomson.
Linda Beatty reported on Peninsula’s performance in the TOP (Teams of the Peninsulas) team results for the season.
The Peninsula Ladies team finished second on the year in this competitive competition among several women’s teams in the region.
A final tournament, the annual Trick or Treat play, is planned Wednesday, Oct. 29.
The course will be set up in par-3 fashion and Halloween costumes and fun are on the day’s agenda.
The Peninsula Golf Club Ladies play Wednesday and Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., respectively, at the course high above Port Angeles.
When November rolls around, the Ladies will begin Wednesday play at 10 a.m.

Woods back at it
According to Steve DiMeglio of USA Today, Tiger Woods has started taking “fuller shots” as of last week.
“The doctors said he could hit golf balls again, and he’s listening to his doctors and to his body,” said Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg.
“He will keep listening to his doctors and body. He’s feeling pretty good.”
That’s good news for Woods, something the superstar has received very little of in the past year.
With this update it looks like Woods will be ready to go at the Hero World Challenge at the beginning of December — a tournament he hosts.
