SKYRIDGE GOLF COURSE in Sequim will host its second annual Battle at The Ridge, a two-day, two-person best ball tournament, this weekend.
An 18-hole practice round will be held Friday at the course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway.
Competition in the form of two 18-hole rounds will follow Saturday and Sunday with 9:30 a.m. shotgun starts planned, barring frost.
This event is tournament play with players teeing off from SkyRidge’s green tees. Golfers will play their own ball until it is holed — with shots played where they fall and players playing their own clubs.
Players receive three days of power cart and range ball access, two days of closest to the pin, long putt and long drive prize contests.
Two meals, a burger buffet on Saturday and Dusty Henry’s blackened salmon after play on Sunday, are included in the event’s $100 per player price for the general public.
Gross and Net division prizes are planned and an optional honey pot competition is $20 per player.

Aces abound
Peninsula Golf Club member Mark Mitrovich recorded his fifth-ever hole-in-one while playing a round at Port Ludlow Golf Club on Oct. 9.
Mitrovich used his 2-iron and hit a Titleist Pro V1X golf ball into the wind on the 219-yard par-3 14th hole.
The ball, a new one borrowed from his wife, Lori, did the trick for Mitrovich.
The shot was witnessed by Port Angeles’ Jim Berns.
Balla shot caller
Sequim’s Allen Balla found nothing but the bottom of the cop, recording his third-ever hole-in-one Oct. 30 at The Cedars at Dungeness.
Balla used a 5-iron and a Srixon ball to hole out on the 155-yard 17th hole.
His shot was witnessed by Sequim’s Jerry McLinn and Ray Ballantyne.

Peninsula wraps season
The Peninsula Golf Club Lady Golfers celebrated the end of the 2019 season last month with a nine-hole scramble, election of officers, luncheon and recognition of the groups’ award winners.
The nine-hole scramble winners were Dolly Burnett, Linda Bruch, Ruth Thomson, and Sandy Granger.
Officers for the 2020 season are: Gloria Andrus, president; Sherry Henderson, vice-president; Chris Anderson, secretary; Marie Murata, treasurer and Captain Cindy Schlaffman.
Thanks to these women who give their time and talents in leadership for the ladies club.

The ladies will continue their Wednesday morning golf and welcome guests. Tee time is set at 10 a.m. for the late fall and winter months.
Drive for the Cure raises $15K
Thanks to more than 100 golfers and a host of community sponsors helped organizers of the Sunland Women’s Golf Association’s annual Drive for the Cure golf tournament set a record with $15,000 raised.
The modified scramble tourney, held Sept. 21, raises dollars each year to support cancer screening and diagnostic services for men and women on the North Olympic Peninsula through the Olympic Medical Center Foundation.
Since 2011, Sunland has donated $66,800 to the foundation to support the cause. An anonymous Sunland donor has helped reach this goal by donating via a matching fund since 2012.
This year’s tournament had 112 golfers and an 12 twelve people attend lunch. Additional funds were raised through special tourney offers, including paying a “designated driver” — Sequim High sophomore Dominic Riccobene — to tee off on the first hole.
The tourney featured 38 hole and memorial sponsors and business sponsors, including Sound Community Bank, Windermere Real Estate, Fryer Insurance Agency, Sequim Health & Rehabilitation, Dockside Restaurant, Rainshadow Laundry & Car Wash and others. Baskets raffles raised another $980.
As for tourney winners, first place in the 18-hole portion went to Brian, Doug, Mark, and Christopher Lux from Lynnwood and Port Townsend. The team of Jim Coulter, Robert Drews, Sandra Ruby and Dave Sharmen won the nine-hole event. Crazy Drive winners were Janet Real, John Palmeri, Gwen Boger and Joe McKinnon. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Mike Mullikin, Linda Hash, Jim Coulter, Paul Reed and Wanda Synnestvedt.
