SEQUIM — The Sequim High School golf team improved its record to 2-0 today, defeating the Bremerton High School Bremerton by 46 strokes.
Playing in frigid temperatures at Cedars at Dungeness, the Wolves bettered their season-opening team score by 23 strokes, shooting a 163 to Bremerton’s 209.
Dominic Riccobene led the Wolves with a 37. Pryce Glasser started with a 5-over-par 10 on the first hole, but went 1-under the rest of the way to finish with a solid 40.
All week in practice, Coach [Greg] Glasser and [I] have been talking about being mentally strong. Pryce did that today and more,” said coach Sean O’Mera.
Ben Sweet didn’t have his best game, but still carded a solid 41.
“He was able to diagnose some missteps. Big things are coming from him. Soon,” O’Mera said.
Cole Smithson played solid with a 45 and Zack Thomspon 53, shaving seven strokes off his score from a week ago.
”He is improving rapidly, and he is only scratching the surface on his talent level,” O’Mera said.
Sage Younger added a 66 for the Wolves.
Bremerton was led by Gavin Ranquilil with a 47.
The Wolves next play at Port Ludlow Golf Course against North Kitsap on Thursday.
Port Angeles 183, North Mason 242
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys golf team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 183-242 victory over North Mason.
Six members of the team were all bunched up with solid scores at Peninsula Golf Course. All six had better scores than North Mason’s top golfer.
Edun Bailey led the Roughriders with a 43. One stroke behind was Phoenix Flores with a 44 and Nate Anderson was just behind with a 46.
Dalton Ross shot a 50 to round out the scoring. Austin Worthington and Reid Schmidt were just behind, each shooting a 51.
North Mason’s top score was a 55 by Gabe Horton.
The Riders (2-0) next play at Olympic on Thursday.
Girls golf Port Angeles 230, North Mason 272
PORT ANGELES — Playing on a wet and soggy course at Peninsula Golf Club, the Port Angeles girls golf team won 230-272 over North Mason.
The Roughriders were led by Sayleh Commerton with a 56. Right behind her were teammates Katie Marchant and Piper Williams, each with 57.
“I was proud of them for keeping their composure when the course was playing so long and difficult,” said coach Michael DuPuis.
Eve Burke shot a 60 to round out the Port Angeles scoring. Lauryn Chapman shot a 61 and Brenna Furnice a 68.
Port Angeles (2-0) next plays Thursday at Olympic.
