PREP GOLF HAS been about as good as it gets in Sequim in recent seasons and whenever I interview another Sequim golfer who has earned All-Peninsula honors, they typically discuss the amount of opportunities available to youth golfers in the area.
Another junior golf program, The Cedars at Dungeness 17U Junior Golf League, is being headed up by Cedars’ PGA Director of Golf Bill Shea.
The program is open to the first 20 players ages 14-17 to register.
It will include eight two-hour practice sessions/lessons with Shea and a three-day junior championship tournament at the end of August. The junior championship will be similar in scope to this weekend’s Clallam County Amateur Championship.
The cost for the junior program is $150.

Clallam Amateur on tap
Today is the deadline to register for the Clallam County Amateur, a three-day, three-round, three-course tournament coming up with rounds at Peninsula Golf Club in Port Angeles and in Sequim at Sunland Golf & Country Club and The Cedars at Dungeness.
Open to all amateur golfers with a valid USGA handicap, the event has a $125 fee for the public, $100 for club members.
Players will compete in three amateur divisions in the 54-hole medal (stroke) play event.
The fee includes all three rounds of golf, range balls and a meal along with the Sunday final round.
Tee times are 11 a.m. at Peninsula Golf Club on Friday; 9 a.m. at Sunland on Saturday and an 8:30 a.m. shotgun at Cedars on Sunday.
Players will compete for a total of $3,500 in prizes, including $1,500 from sponsors based on a full field of 80 players.
Golfers also will have a shot at a $5,000 hole-in-one prize each day and $3,000 in raffle prizes will be handed out during the weekend.
Daily honeypots and KP prizes also will be up for grabs.

Clallam Links coming up
SkyRidge Golf Course in Sequim is proud to be the only “links-style” course on the North Olympic Peninsula. They should be proud — the course is in fantastic shape and it does offer the potential to get creative and use the topography to your liking — bouncing shots off mounds, avoiding penalizing bunkers and dialing in approach shots to the greens.
The course will hold its annual Clallam Links Open, an individual, medal-play format event, following conclusion of The [British] Open’s final round at Northern Ireland’s Royal Portrush on Sunday, July 21.
A lunch of mulligan stew and all the fixin’s will be held at noon with players going off holes No. 1 and 7 during a mini-shotgun start at 1 p.m.
Play will be conducted across three divisions: Men’s Amateur 0-14 (handicap) from the black tees; Men’s Amateur (15 and Up) from the green tees and Women’s Amateur from the silver tees.
Players can form their own foursomes or SkyRidge will place you on a team.
The tournament is open to the first 40 players who have registered and paid their entry fee.
The cost is $60 per player ($25 for golf, $25 for honey pot, $10 for lunch and prizes) and includes 18 holes of golf, range balls, KPs, long putt contest and lunch.
Power cart seats are an additional $15.
A full amateur field will yield a $1,000 total payout with 30 percent of the field getting paid in each division.

Level the Field tourney
The Sequim Association of Realtors will hold a fundraising golf tournament Friday, July 19, to benefit extracurricular activities for Sequim students.
The four-person scramble event will be held at The Cedars at Dungeness with registration at 11:30 a.m. and a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
A dinner and auction fundraiser also will benefit the Sequim Association of Realtors’ Level the Field project.

Youth golf camp
A youth golf camp for ages 5-16 will be held at Cedars at Dungeness from July 22-24.
The camp will be split into sessions for ages 5-9 and 10 through 16.
Ages 5 through 9 will attend from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. July 22-23 and from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 24.
Ages 10 through 16 will play from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 22-23 and 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 24.
Campers will learn putting, chipping, the full swing and golf etiquette during the first two days. On the final day, a five-hole tournament will be held with a pizza party and awards presentation following play.
The cost is $80 and space is limited to the first 45 kids.

Bob Cup tourney set
The fourth-annual Bob Cup Golf Tournament is set for Saturday, July 27, at The Cedars at Dungeness.
Created in memory of longtime Sequim resident Bob Duncan, proceeds from the tourney benefit Clallam Mosaic, an area nonprofit serving individuals with developmental disabilities since 1998.
The tournament cost is $120 for golf and lunch; $20 for barbecue only with pre-registration or $25 at the door.
The event includes closest-to-pin and long drive awards, a Putt for Wine contest and “ball in the boat” challenge. Mulligans are $20. A live auction will offer a pair of tickets from Alaska airlines.
Winners will take home the prestigious Bob Cup for one year.
Event check-in is 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and the tourney begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The barbecue begins at 2:30.
