PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Women’s Golf Club hosted the Discovery Bay Women’s club for their annual memorial scramble on July 27.
The day began with the dedication of a wooden bench, hand-made by Al Audette, husband of one of the members, in memory of two of their dear members, Naomi and Janie Marcus, mother and daughter, who passed away last year. Janie’s daughter, Etta, and siblings Cliff and Emily were in attendance.
After the dedication, the women played a nine-hole scramble tournament with four-person teams made up of members from both golf clubs.

The women also competed individually for closest to the pin on hole No. 2, longest drive on hole No. 4 and the most accurate drive to the center-line on hole No. 8.
There was a tie for first place with two teams shooting a par 35. This resulted in a card-off whereby the scores were compared hole by hole to determine which team had the best score on the hardest holes. The winning team was Wanda Synnestvedt, Judy Munden, Diane Solie and Robin Lelievre. Second place went to Linda Deal, Betty Gastfield and Dee Sweeney.
Starla Audette won the closest-to-the-pin prize, which was a beautiful vintage mahogany putting practice set donated by Barb Aldrich. For the longest-drive contest, Cindy Breed won a long necklace of dollar bills, and for the most accurate drive, Lynn Bidlake won a wine glass, complete with game chips.
After the awards presentation, everyone enjoyed lunch donated by club member Lee Madock.
Bailey hole in one
BELLEVUE — Edun Bailey, 16, of Port Angeles, playing in the Bellevue Amateur open this weekend, hit a hole in one on the third hole. Bailey hit an easy 6-iron 146 yards and watched it roll up and in the hole.
It was Bailey’s first hole-in-one. He is a member of the Port Angeles High School golf team.
Discovery Bay results
DISCOVERY BAY — July 29 was the Discovery Bay Women’s Club “Sweet 16” in which players can subtract their two worst holes from total score minus full handicap.
Fourteen women played in the event. First place went to Donna Brown with a net score of 56. Barb Aldrich was second with a 58, while Jane Peoples was third with 61, Lynn Pierle fourth with 62, Dee Sweeny fifth with 63, Jane Guiltinana was sixth with 65 and Sheila Kilmer seventh with 66.
