GOLF: Play a round before Sunday’s big game

IS IT SUNDAY yet?

I know I’m not the only one who’s been counting down the days until kickoff of the Super Bowl.

Anxious anticipation is all the rage these days, and a good way to let off some nervous energy in advance of the big game is to grab your golf gear and play a round.

Two new Seahawks-themed opportunities join the list of golf adventures this week.

Golfers can take advantage of the 12th Man Promotion at Port Ludlow Golf Club.

Through Sunday, rounds are $12, and use of a cart also is $12 per rider.

Phone the course at 360-437-0272.

Super Bowl scramble

At SkyRidge Golf Course in Sequim, a three-person Pre-Super Bowl Scramble is set for a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start Saturday.

“Beast Mode” fees are $24 for the public and $12 for annual members and employees.

Carts are $12 per seat, and a “Holding Penalty” honey pot is $10.

Golfers will receive 18 holes of golf, range balls, a chance at KPs and a Super Bowl hot dog and chips.

Each hole will provide some challenges for players.

For instance:

■ A field goal challenge on the first tee. If successful, it will allow teams to lie one from the 150-yard marker as they hit toward an oversized cup.

■ On hole 7/16, players will have a shot at tossing a free throw through a hoop with the reward of subtracting a stroke off the hole.

■ The last hole will require all golfers to tee off while wearing a football helmet.

SkyRidge also is accepting entries for its 27-hole Winter Links Open.

For more information, or to sign up for either event, phone the course at 360-683-3673.

12th Man green fees

SunLand Golf & Country Club in Sequim will offer $12 green fees on weekends for the remainder of the month.

The course also is running a Beast Mode package on weekends, with a chance to win a Marshawn Lynch jersey during a drawing Saturday.

Super Bowl Bash

Cedars at Dungeness’ Super Bowl Bash tournament, a four-person scramble with handicap and Callaway divisions, will be quite a bit more fun to play in after Sunday’s heroics.

A shotgun start will kick off the event at the Sequim course at 9:30 a.m.

The tourney is open to those who have a USGA handicap and those without.

There are variable fees, with the cart-using public paying $65, and cart-using members or employees $45. The walking public offering up $55, while walking members or employees paying $35.

Everybody will receive lunch, refreshments, range balls, a chance at KPs and two squares on a score-predicting betting board.

A $40 per team honeypot also will be available.

Sign up by phoning Cedars at 360-683-6344, ext. 1 by Friday.

Cedars ladies tourney

The women of Cedars are looking for players from other courses to participate in a Spring Swing golf tourney Thursday, Feb. 26.

This is a preseason, introductory tourney for all women interested in a fun golf league.

Players can choose from nine holes for $14 or 18 holes for $25.

There’s no mandated score posting. Winter rules and organizers call for a “loose format of good fun.”

There will be a golf clinic provided by a Cedars pro and tee favors for participants.

Organizers invite participating ladies to “freeze your tees off,” during the event.

To register, phone 360-797-3450.
