TIME TO CELEBRATE Independence Day by chasing a ball around the golf course, thanks to some Fourth of July golf specials at our area layouts.
Weeklong deal
Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim is celebrating through Saturday with a $44 special that includes 18 holes of golf and use of a cart for rounds that begin after 11 a.m. each day.

Ludlow deal
Port Ludlow has an Independence Day special today for $39.95 plus tax for a green fee and cart rental with tee times starting after 10 a.m.
Red, White and Blue Scramble
Discovery Bay Golf Club near Port Townsend will celebrate Independence Day by hosting a four-person Red, White and Blue Scramble and Pot Luck at 9 a.m. today.
All players are invited to participate. The Discovery Bay Men’s Club will provide burgers after play. Golfers should bring a dish for the post-round potluck.
There is a $10 entry fee plus the Discovery Bay green fee.
Men will play from a combination of the course’s Red, White and Blue tees. Women will tee it up from the Silver, Red and Gold tees.
Discovery Bay also has super-twilight rates of $12 after 5 p.m.
Stars and Stripes
SkyRidge Golf Course in Sequim will host its annual Stars and Stripes Golf Tournament, a two-person, 27-hole event with three separate formats, Saturday.
A 9 a.m. shotgun start will begin the event which features a first nine of better ball, a second nine of scramble play and a final nine holes of alternate shot.
Cost is $90 per team and entries are limited to the first 28 teams to register.
The price includes green fees, range balls, KP and long putt contests and lunch.
A $20 honey pot is available per person and carts are $15 per seat.

Great deal for WSGA youth
Discovery Bay head pro Jeff Kent said that the course has a great deal for youth golfers through the Washington State Golf Association’s Youth On Course program.
Any junior golfer that is a member of the WSGA and has a current handicap number can play Discovery Bay for $5 at any time.
Youth golf camp
Port Ludlow will host three youth golf camps for ages 7 through 16 this month.
The first camp begins Monday and runs through July 13. The other dates are July 23-26 and July 30-Aug. 2.
All camps will run from 9 a.m. to noon.
Players will receive instruction on the full swing, chipping, putting and pitch shots, along with learning the rules and etiquette of the game.
They are intended for players new to the game or intermediate players looking to improve their skills.
And most importantly, a snack will be provided each day.
Cost for the camp is $175 per player.

Shea is 26th
Sequim’s Sarah Shea competed in the Washington State Golf Association’s Women’s Amateur last weekend at Lake Spanaway Golf Course.
Shea finished tied for 26th after posting rounds of 87, 86 and 81 (38-over-par).
Tacoma’s Olivia Benzin led wire-to-wire after shooting rounds of 69, 72 and 77 to win the tournament at 2-over-par
The Oregon State golfer finished four shots ahead of second-place Jamie Huo of Auburn.
Amateur this weekend
The 2018 Clallam County Amateur, with rounds at Peninsula Golf Club, SunLand Golf & Country Club and The Cedars at Dungeness, will be played Friday through Sunday.
Tee times are: 11 a.m. at Peninsula Golf Club on Friday; 9 a.m. at SunLand on Saturday and a 9 a.m. shotgun at Cedars on Sunday.
