Clallam County Amateur golf slated July 7-9

SEQUIM — Open to all amateur golfers, the 54-hole 2023 Clallam County Amateur Championship will be contested at Peninsula Golf Club, Sunland Golf & Country Club and The Cedars at Dungeness July 7-9.

Entry fees are $180 for the public, $150 for members/employees and includes three rounds of golf, range balls, prizes, raffles, KP, a Friday evening cocktail party and lunch on the final day. Cart fees are not included.

Players also will have shots at a $5,000 hole-in-one prize each day.

Registration is open at https://7cedars.com/ccac.html with a July 5 registration deadline.

Players will compete at Peninsula Golf Club or Sunland with 10 a.m. tee times July 7 and 9 a.m. tee times on July 8.

The final round is a 9 a.m. shotgun start at The Cedars at Dungeness.

Coston wins Senior

SEQUIM — Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club’s Jeff Coston clinched his 13th 7 Cedars Hotel & Casino Senior Washington Open on Thursday with a round of 2-under-par 70 to finish at 3-under and 213 strokes for the three-day tournament.

Coston posted rounds of 72, 71 and 70 to win by five strokes over former Peninsula Golf Club head pro Chris Repass, now of Walla Walla, and Thomas Sovay (The Golf Club at Redmond Ridge) and Birk Nelson (all at 2-over-par 218).

He earned the $5,500 first-place prize purse.

Repass posted rounds of 72, 72 and 74.

A number of area golfers competed in the Amateur portion of the event including Kevin Burnett of The Cedars at Dungeness, who earned the best local finish after tying for fourth at 11-over-par in the Amateur Flight Two Age 58-63 category.

Lancelle ace

SEQUIM — Sequim’s Brandon Lancelle recorded his third career hole-in-one Thursday while playing The Cedars at Dungeness.

Lancelle aced the par-3 eighth hole from 154 yards while using his 9-iron and a Titleist Pro V1 golf ball.

His shot was witnessed by Kalem Fields, Tim Bittner and Jeremy Oliver, all of Sequim.

50th Crab & Crabette

SEQUIM — Registration for the 50th Crab & Crabette golf tournament will begin Sunday.

The tournament is hosted by The Cedars at Dungeness and will run from Aug. 4-6, with competition roundsd Aug. 4-5.

Entry fees are $180 per player, $140 for members/employees and $360 per team and include three days of golf, range balls for the competition rounds, tee prize and hosted crab dinner and lunch.

Carts are an additional $36 per day.

A maximum handicap of 33.8 for men and 34.6 for women will be allowed.

Players can schedule a practice round after 9:30 a.m. Aug. 4. An optional horserace is $25 and will begin at 5 p.m.

Competition begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Aug. 5 with a crab dinner at 6 p.m.

A 9 a.m. shotgun start opens play Aug. 6, with an awards presentation following the round.

SEQUIM — Lori Oakes and Lori Wyngaert teamed to earn first place as The Cedars at Dungeness Women’s Golf Association recently hosted its’ Member-Member Tournament.

Barb Burrows and Lynnette Sheriff were second, Bev Handschumaker and Kathy Langston third.

Captain Judy Reno held a brief meeting following the good times, smiles and joking for 18 holes of golf where she shared several ‘thank you’ notes from the Peninsula Home Fund, the Sequim High School Girls Golf Team and one other charity for their contributions made last year.
