Peninsula ladies tee up

The Peninsula Golf Club Lady Golfers held their 2017 kick off scramble and luncheon on April 26.

Dolly Burnett, Ruth Thomson, Cindy Schlaffman, and Sue Priest claimed the nine-hole scramble. A business meeting followed play and resulted in a motion to donate to the club’s fund for the automated external defibrillator which has been purchased for emergency use.

The May competition is the Gray Cup, three rounds for net scores.

The Peninsula Golf Club Ladies tee off on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Guests are welcome.

“We are glad to have ladies join us for a beautiful morning between the mountains and the sea at Peninsula Golf Club,” club member Sandy Granger said.

SunLand ladies

Sunland Women’s Golf Association held its Spring General Meeting and Golf Tournament on Thursday, April 20.

We were very fortunate in having a nice sunny day with little or no wind. Twenty-one ladies played in a three person modified scramble. The winners via a card off with a score of 86 were Bobbie Piety, Jamileh Pott and Christie Wilson.

Gail Savage, Dana Burback and Judy Kelley came in second and Diane Kahookele, M.J. Anderson and Mary Kubas-Meyer came in third with an 89. The Straight Drive was won by Diane Kahookele; the Long Drive by Bobbie Piety; and the Closest to the Pin by Dana Burback.

The group teed off at 8:30 a.m. and were back in the clubhouse for a lunch of white bean chicken chili, green salad, cornbread and berry cobbler with whipped cream.

“Amazingly, we did not sleep through the meeting,” SunLand member Janet Real said.

The club’s Captain, Cecil Brown, is recuperating from knee replacement surgery, so Assistant Captain Eileen Larsen led the meeting and recapped the group’s coming events.

Rules chair Geri O’Claray handed out a handy laminated sheet which displays common penalties and the strokes taken if they occur.

Best of all: Real said it didn’t start to rain until club members arrived home.
