GOLFERS DOING GOOD deeds played a huge role in raising nearly $20,000 for an area nonprofit as part of the fourth annual Bob Cup Charity Golf Tournament held earlier this summer at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.
Thirty golfers teed it up in a shotgun start to raise funds for Clallam Mosaic, an area nonprofit working to empower individuals with special needs.
More than $19,000 was raised for the project between sponsorships, registration fees, silent and live auctions, a barbecue, raffle tickets and open donations.
The majority of the income will be set aside for creation of a permanent location for Mosaic services, the remaining portion will support existing activities.
“The Bob Cup is becoming a summer golfing tradition,” said Mary Jane Duncan, organizer of the tournament. “Support from members of the business community and individuals keeps growing.”
Throughout the day there was an array of on-course challenges such closest to the pin awards, put a ball in the boat on the pond at hole No. 17, and the ever popular “Putt for Wine” on the practice green.
As the teams finished their play, another 42 people joined in the fun with both live and silent auctions, raffles and a barbecue dinner.
The 2020 Bob Cup Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 25 at Cedars at Dungeness.
Summer Scramble
SkyRidge Golf Course in Sequim will host a three-person Summer Scramble Tournament on Saturday.
Each player is responsible for two drives and two second shots.
The tournament tees off with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
There will be gross and net division prizes.
Lunch will be served following play.
The first 22 teams that register will play in the event.
The cost is $90 per team, $30 per player.
A honey pot also will be available for $20 per player.
Congrats, Wanda!
I always enjoy writing up hole-in-one reports for Port Townsend’s Wanda Synnestvedt.
Synnestvedt, who I knew by the much easier to say and spell Wanda back then, was a special education teacher/psychologist at Port Townsend High School when I was a student.
And she’s a terrific golfer, recently carding her ninth career hole-in-one while playing a round at The Cedars at Dungeness on Aug. 27.
Synnestvedt aced the 120-yard 17th hole using her 7-iron and a Callaway Super Soft golf ball.
Her shot was witnessed by Witta Priester and Bobbie Piety of Sequim.
Nice shooting once again, Wanda.
Fore the Kids
Golfers can enjoy a day out on the course while helping to support local youth, teens and families at the Olympic Peninsula YMCA’s 2nd annual Fore the Kids Golf Tournament at The Cedars at Dungeness on Saturday, Sept. 21.
The four-person scramble format event has a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
Entry fees are $100 per player and include green fees, cart use, a boxed lunch and heavy appetizers.
On-course contests are planned, along with a shot at a hole-in-one prize.
Players also will receive a polo shirt and swag bag. Drawings for prizes like Seahawks tickets and a one-year YMCA membership also are planned.
Registration is open through Sept. 16.

Proceeds from this tournament will benefit the Olympic Peninsula YMCA’s Member Support Fund to provide financial assistance to individuals, families and children in need.
Drive for the Cure
RSVP’s are due Saturday for Sunland’s Women’s Golf Association’s annual Drive for the Cure golf tournament and luncheon, a benefit for the Olympic Medical Center Foundation, on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Proceeds go toward breast screening and diagnostic services for men and women on the Olympic Peninsula.
The tournament, a modified scramble format event, will offer 18-hole and nine-hole events.
The 18-hole tournament will have a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Cost is $65 for non-members, which includes green fees, range balls, a mulligan and a magic putt. Carts are $16 per seat for the 18-hole event.
An 11 a.m. shotgun start is planned for nine-hole players. The cost is $50 for non-members and there is a $10 per seat cart rental fee.
The luncheon follows play at 1:30 p.m.
