GIRLS SWIM & DIVE: Port Angeles capsizes Kingston

Riders win 11 of 12 events

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles girls swim and dive earned victories in 11 of 12 events for the second straight meet, sinking Kingston 138-28 on Wednesday at Shore Aquatic Center.

Roughrider squads swept all three relay events.

The 200-yard individual medley team of Brooke St. Luise, Rachel Cooper, Mackenzie DuBois and Harper McGuire opened the meet with a victory, while the 200-freestyle quartet of DuBois, Lizzy Shaw, Yau Fu and McGuire outouched the Buccaneers by 25 seconds.

Port Angeles’ 400-free relay made up of Sara Wilson, Emerson DuBois, Lynzee Reid and St. Luise ended the meet with another win.

Fu made her season debut in the 200 free a good one with a victory and a district-qualifying time and also earned another win and district time in the 100 breaststroke to close out the meet.

Three Riders set personal-best marks.

“Lynzee Reid also nabbed a new districts time in the 100 back, finishing first well ahead of any competitor,” coach Sally Cole said. “Lizzy Shaw claimed top honors in the 50 free and Mackenzie DuBois topped the field in the 100 free.

“Mackenzie DuBois secured her second state-qualifying time, dominating the 200 individual medley and swimming a season best by six seconds. McGuire insured the Riders another spot at the state meet by prevailing in the 500 free and cutting her time from two weeks ago by more than 10 seconds,” Cole said.

Junior Lucia Garcia-Pulido picked up an impressive personal record in the 100 free, improving her time by four seconds from last week.

Freshman Chole Kay-Sanders reached another personal record in the 100 breast, bettering her time by six seconds. Other personal records for the team came from Emerson DuBois (50 free), Ava Fox (50 free), and Danika Asgeirsson (100 free).

Port Angeles swept the dive event with Grace Possinger claiming the title, scoring 141.05 points. “This is the best meet I’ve seen her dive. Her back somersault in the straight position scored 6 from two judges,” said dive coach Pete VanRossen.
