SEQUIM — The Peninsula Soccer Academy girls team beat the Washington Rush regional premiere team 2-0.
The first goal of the game was scored by Port Angeles CiCi Robinson 20 seconds into the second half after she received a ball from Port Angeles’ Shanzi Cosgrove over the defense and then slotting the ball past the Rush keeper.
The second goal was scored by Sequim’s Olivia Barrett on a cross from hard-charging Delaney Wenzl of Port Angeles. Posting the shutout for PSA Saturday was Port Angeles goalkeeper Bonnie Sires.
The team is made up of 44 high school girls from Port Angeles, Sequim and Port Townsend and is coached by Peninsula College coach Jack Hughes, along with other Peninsula staff.
The team is a Development Academy partnership between Port Angeles Youth Soccer and Peninsula College. This is the team’s sixth season.
The North Puget Sound Soccer League is made up of girls from Kitsap, King and Snohomish counties.
PSA is 1-1 so far in its 10-game season. The girls earlier lost to Seattle Crossfire, which is the top-ranked team in the league.
The next game is Saturday in Bellevue against Newport FC.
