GIRLS PREP SOCCER: Millie Long named Olympic 2A MVP

PORT ANGELES — Millie Long produced the greatest individual statistical season in Port Angeles girls soccer history this fall and has been rewarded with the Olympic League 2A Division Most Valuable Player Award.

Voting was conducted by league coaches.

A junior, Long scored 33 goals and added 11 assists to lead the Roughriders (16-3-1) to the most wins in school history, the first league title in 34 years and a trip to the state quarterfinals.

Long wasn’t alone, however, and was joined on the first-team by senior midfielder Delaney Wenzl, sophomore midfielder Bailee Larson and senior defender Lucah Folden.

Second-team selections for Port Angeles include senior goalkeeper Madi Roening, junior forward Hannah Reetz and freshman midfielder Anna Petty.

Sequim senior forward Hope Glasser was a first-team selection for the Wolves and junior goalkeeper Olivia Hare was a second-team pick for Sequim, which went 11-7-1 and qualified for the state tournament for the second straight season.

Port Angeles’ Long and Sequim’s Alexis Smith earned Sportsmanship honors from league coaches.

Long-time Bremerton coach Lance McCoy was voted Coach of the Year.

McCoy retired from coaching at the end of the season.
