PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles girls basketball team got big games from Anna Petty, playing in her final home game of her career, and Lexie Smith in all but locking up at least second place in the Olympic 2A League with a 55-25 win over Kingston.
The Roughriders’ defense forced 30 Kingston turnovers. Port Angeles allowed only two points from the Buccaneers in the second quarter and the fourth quarter.
Petty scored 17 points and had four assists while shooting 7-for-12 (58.3 percent) from the floor, while Smith had 10 points, 11 rebounds and five steals.
“Our two seniors, … Petty and Piper Williams, were celebrated before the game,” said coach Michael Poindexter. “Anna led us in scoring and assists, and Piper had a good all-around game with seven rebounds and three steals to go with her four points.
“Lexie Smith had an outstanding game, leading us in rebounds, steals and steady defense in our 2-3 zone,” Poindexter said. He also highlighted the play of Izzy Felton with eight points, four boards, four steals and three assists.
Lindsay Smith added nine points for Port Angeles, while Kennedy Rognlien had six rebounds.
Port Angeles (11-2, 11-8) plays at first-place Sequim (13-0, 17-0) at 5:15 p.m. today.

Sequim 67, Olympic 38
BREMERTON — The Sequim girls team maintained their perfect record and No. 2 ranking in Ratings Percentage Index, cruising to a 67-28 win over Olympic on Tuesday.
Coach Joclin Julmist said the Wolves played well on both the defensive and offensive sides. Sequim had 15 steals and 39 rebounds in dominating the Trojans. They also shot nearly 50 percent (21-for-43) from the floor.
“The girls played well. Hannah [Bates] was really good on both sides tonight. Bobbi [Mixon] was also really good on both sides,” Julmist said.
“Taryn [Johnson] was good on the defensive side and scored some timely baskets,” he said. “Jelissa [Julmist] … was moving her feet and getting in the passing lanes. Sammie [Bacon] was tough on the boards, and everyone got a chance to play some good minutes.”
Bates led the Wolves with 20 points and six rebounds as she shot 7-for-10 from the field. Mixon had one of her best games of the year with 16 points, four assists and three steals, while Julmist had 11 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
Sequim (13-0, 17-0) hosts second-place Port Angeles (11-2, 11-8) at 5:15 p.m. today. In their first meeting of the year, the Wolves were able to beat the Roughriders by four points in one of their closest games of the year.

Neah Bay 70, Crescent 25
JOYCE — The Neah Bay basketball girls picked up a league win with a 70-25 victory over Crescent on Tuesday.
Allie Greene hit three 3-pointers. Greene and Ryana Moss led the Red Devils in scoring with 16 points each.
Gracie Chartraw had 11 points, making three 3-pointers.
Crescent was led by Naomii Sprague, who scored eight, and Cierra Cargo-Acosta, who contributed six points.
Neah Bay (14-1), ranked No. 1 in RPI among 1B schools, next hosts Taholah at 3 p.m. Saturday, then have a very interesting rematch on Tuesday at Sequim. The 16-0 No. 2-ranked Sequim girls beat Neah Bay by eight points in the opening game of the year.
Crescent (8-8) is done with its regular season schedule and will begin postseason district play on Feb. 9. The Loggers hope to learn their postseason opponent by Friday.

BELLEVUE — East Jefferson lost on the road 58-27 to a 17-0 Bellevue Christian team leading the Nisqually League.
East Jefferson is still in the thick of the playoff hunt at 6-7 in league (fifth place) and has a very important game on the road against Vashon (5-8) on Friday.
