FORKS — The Forks girls basketball team won its second straight Pacific 2B League championship with a big win Friday night over Raymond-South Bend, though it wasn’t an easy win.
The Spartans had to come from behind with a 22-6 third quarter to pull out the 45-41 win over the Ravens, who came in to Friday’s game with a solid 11-6 record.
“We knew it would be a battle. There was a lot on the line,” said coach David Hurn. “There was a lot going on in the gym. We’re really thankful to the community.”
The Spartans clinched the title with a perfect 8-0 record in league (14-3 overall). They are back-to-back Pacific 2B League champions, though this year they will not be sharing the title with anyone. It’s all theirs.
Knowing so much was on the line, Hurn said his players “were a little hyped up early” and had trouble making their shots. The Spartans fell behind 21-15 at the half but started the second half on a 7-0 run to take the lead.
“The struggle was real that first half,” he said. “After that 7-0 run, we never looked back.”
Keira Johnson scored 15 points in the third quarter as part of her team-leading 26 points. RSB came back in the fourth with a 14-8 quarter to make it close, but the Spartans were able to hang on.
Forks has a couple of tough nonleague games coming up against No. 1-ranked 1B Neah Bay at 5:45 p.m. today and Mount Vernon Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Spartans still have two Pacific 2B League games versus Ocosta and Chief Leschi.

Sequim 70, Bremerton 41
SEQUIM — The Sequim girls basketball team got big contributions from all their starters and racked up 19 assists in a 70-49 win Friday.
“The girls did a great job moving the ball tonight,” said coach Joclin Julmist.”We were able to get almost everyone in the game tonight and that is always fun for the girls because they show up every day at practice helping us get better.”
Gracie Chartraw led the team with 20 points, all in the first half. She led the team with six assists and added four steals. “She was doing a great job looking for her teammates tonight,” Julmist said.
Bobbi Mixon contributed 15 points, shooting 3-for-5 from 3-point range. Jolene Vaara had 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting, adding six rebounds.
Libby Turella had 11 points and five steals, while Dani Herman had six points, four blocks and led the team with 11 rebounds. Raimey Brewer shot 2-for-2 on her 3-pointers for six points, and Hailey Wagner added five rebounds.
Sequim (6-3, 8-4) plays at North Kitsap (2-6, 7-6) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Neah Bay 58, Crescent 10
JOYCE — The No. 1-ranked Neah Bay girls basketball team got off to a 25-0 start in the first quarter to beat Crescent 58-10, handing the Loggers their first loss since early December.
Crescent’s seven-game win streak was snapped. The Red Devils, who improved to 9-2 on the season, were led by Wiinuk Martin with 18 points and Angel Halttunen’s 11. Crescent was led by Audrey Gales with five points.
It was the first time Crescent had lost since Dec. 5, 45 days ago. Neah Bay’s only two losses have been to the No. 1- and No. 2-ranked 2B teams in the state.
Neah Bay’s Ratings Percentage Index is .7249, considerably ahead of No. 2-ranked Crosspoint at .6726.
Crescent (7-4) hosts Clallam Bay at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Neah Bay played Coupeville on Saturday then plays at Forks (14-3) at 5:45 p.m. Monday.
