PORT ANGELES — Next Door Gastropub’s Olympic Avalanche Black competed in the Washington Tournament Association event this weekend in Lynnwood.
The Avalanche Black went 3-1, capturing third place. The team’s only loss was to eventual champion and the state’s top club team Eastside Basketball Club — EBC “Blue” — a team of 8 girls from six high schools in the greater Seattle area. The game was close throughout, but the EBC Blue, which beat most of the teams at the tournament by a wide margin, made a couple of late baskets to win 44-37.
OAB also defeated one of the top high school feeder teams in the state in the Lynden Christian Lyncs., which had beaten OAB in November by two points up in a Lynden tourney.
Looking to avenge that loss, the OAB girls jumped all over LC and built up a lead of 31-4 by halftime.
In the EBC Blue game, Emilia Long had 16 points for OAB in the 44-37 loss.
In other games, OAB beat BC 250 (Kelowna, B.C.) 50-23, with Madison Cooke leading the team with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Reetz scored 11 points, while Myra Walker had 12 rebounds.
OAB also beat I-Ball of Woodinville 68-23. Cooke had a huge game with 27 points ang 16 rebounds, while Reetz and Jaida Wood each scored 14. Long had 11 points and 10 steals, while Wood had five points and 14 rebounds and Walker six points and 12 rebounds.
Against the LC Lyncs, OAB won 44-17. Long scored 12 points with seven steals, while Camille Stensgard had 11 points and Cooke eight points and nine rebounds. Wood had seven points and six rebounds.
The OAB will be playing in the Washington State Middle School Championships in Spokane March 17-19.
All eight of the OAB girls will attend Port Angeles High School next year.
