KINGSTON — The Sequim girls basketball team got 30 points and seven rebounds from Jolene Vaara to help beat Kingston on the road 63-47 on Saturday.
“Jolene had another monster game on both sides of the court. She guarded [Kingston’s] best player the whole game and scored 30 points. She’s been really good all year,” said coach Joclin Julmist.
“We had a tough game tonight and needed a team effort to pull out this victory. The girls played good defense, helped each other out and made their players take difficult shots,” Julmist said.
Hannah Wagner scored 12 points and had six assists and played strong defense, according to Julmist. Lauryn Stephens scored 11.
Hannah Bates didn’t score, but had four assists and four steals.
“Hannah Bates played a great game … she played great defense. She took two charges and should have had another one. She does all the little things that don’t always show up in the books,” Julmist said. “Good team win.”
Sequim (11-0, 15-2) remains in first place in the Olympic 2A League. The Spartans are next scheduled to play at home at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Olympic (0-10, 1-13).
Port Angeles 71, North Mason 27
BELFAIR — The Port Angeles girls basketball team got 30 points, nine rebounds and six steals from Eve Burke in a 71-27 win Saturday over North Mason.
Eight players also had assists, with Bailee Larson leading the way with eight to go along with 16 points. Anna Petty had eight rebounds, six steals, five assists and five points
“We played a variety of defenses against North Mason, all of them effective in keeping the Bulldogs’ shooting percentage down [23 percent] and generating steals [25],” said coach Michael Poindexter.
“Isabelle Felton was particularly effective off the bench with three assists and four steals,” Poindexter said.
The win keeps the Riders in second place, a game behind rival Sequim. Port Angeles (9-1, 10-6) plays at Kingston (5-6, 7-6) Tuesday, then hosts Sequim on Thursday.

Crescent 91, Clallam Bay 15
JOYCE — The Crescent girls basketball team beat Clallam Bay 91-15 on Saturday.
“Lady loggers defense play well early leading the way for a lot of transition fast points. Hats off to Clallam Bay for playing with only five to start and four for some of the game with a injury. They did not quit,” said Crescent coach Mike Hazelett.
Kaylen Mason led Crescent with 21 points, while JoCy Kazlauskas scored 14 and Naomii Sprague came off the bench with 14. Clallam Bay was led by Abby Flores with 11.
