CHIMACUM — East Jefferson was upended in its Nisqually League girls basketball contest by an older, stronger Cascade Christian squad 47-32 on Thursday night.
“Cascade Christian is a good, solid team, they seem to have a lot of experience top to bottom,” coach Lorraine Rimson said. “They were physically stronger than a lot of our kids. Our kids are still learning a lot of things and we were not able to match up with them.I can put that on me not having the girls better prepared.
“But we do play them once again and by then we will have added a few things that will put us in better position.”
Kay Botkin led the Rivals with 12 points, knocking down four 3-point baskets.
“We’ve been talking about letting the game come to her and taking shots in rhythm and she did a great job of that,” Rimson said.
Kaetyn Riley had seven points.
“She’s just so fun to watch, she had a handful of steals as well,” Rimson said of the freshman.
Penina Vailolo also had seven points for East Jefferson. (1-1, 1-3)
The Rivals visit Seattle Christian on Tuesday.

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders shrugged off a poor start to their Olympic League opener, which saw Port Angeles commit five of its nine turnovers, thanks to a good run to end the first quarter.
“The score was tied 7-7 late in the first quarter, but a 3-point shot by Kennedy Rognlien and inside scores by Paige Mason and Tatum Moses sparked us to a 7-2 run to end the quarter,” coach Michael Poindexter said.
“Bremerton’s height and effort helped them gather 16 offensive rebounds, which helped keep the game close in the first half.”
Seniors Paige Mason and Izzy Felton led the Riders in points with 12 and 11, respectively.
“Paige led us in rebounds with 10, and Izzy in assists with seven and steals with six,” Poindexter said. Lexie Smith had a solid contribution of 6 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals.”
Port Angeles forced the Knights into 36 turnovers on the game and limited Bremerton to just 28-percent shooting from the floor (13 of 47).
The Riders hit 23 of 75 shots, getting more attempts thanks to the turnover disparity.

SEATTLE — The Spartans earned a win in their third game in as many days on a long road trip.
“A little surprised we came out so well given the long travel,” coach David Hurn said.
We were able to turn them over and attack in transition and we shot the ball decently from outside. We hit six shots from the outside from five girls. Good for the girls to knock down some shots.”
Forks (1-0, 2-2) plays at Raymond-South Bend on Thursday.
