GIRLS BASKETBALL: Port Angeles wins two straight at tournament

BELLINGHAM — The Port Angeles girls basketball team swept a pair of games at a Meridian tournament this weekend behind its defense and a huge game from Teanna Clark.

The victories evened the Riders’ record at 4-4.

The Roughriders forced 33 turnovers and had 17 steals in a rugged 41-22 win over Curtis on Saturday. This came after a 66-32 win Friday in which Clark scored 27 points.

Curtis shot just 19 percent from the floor against the Riders’ defense.

”Both teams were playing their third game in three days, and it showed in terms of shooting percentages and turnovers,” said coach Michael Poindexter. “It was the most physical game we’ve played all year, and that affected our shooting percentage on inside shots. We’ll be working on improving our ability to score in spite of contact in the coming weeks.”
